Respect the Director Sportif. Snot Rockets. When you have to clear your nose be sure to move to the back of the peloton before you do. New riders are welcome -We always welcome new riders and you are encouraged to invite people to join us, however, if you do invite someone it is your responsibility to be their ride ambassador and to ensure they don't get dropped or lost. Also, before you extend an invite to a friend- give thought to their condition. It can be very discouraging for someone to come out and get dropped early in the ride. Brother's/Sister's keeper-Watching out the person next to you is more important than how you finish a sprint during a ride or your performance recorded on Strava. If there is someone who has a flat or is experiencing some difficulty please do your best to be the first to help them. We are more concerned about our relationships than we are about our individual performance. Engaging bike haters-When we encounter any unfriendly behavior let us remember to represent ourselves with polished composure. We are representing the cycling community and want to present a positive impression even to difficult personalities.
Our ride goals are that we will all get a good workout, enjoy each other’s company, and arrive at our destination safely.
Our rides always start with a safety briefing, and we have one DS who accounts for our riders to ensure we have everyone, and who “manages” the ride to ensure we are riding safely.
Please support the efforts of the DS to ensure a safe and enjoyable ride for everyone.
No Running Red Lights and stop signs. Running a light by yourself puts you at risk. Running them while you are pulling the paceline puts everyone at risk, increased because the riders behind you may not have seen the light changing Crossing intersections. When in the front of the peloton please use caution going through lights and be cognizant that there could be 20 to 30 riders behind you and that they will need extra time to clear the intersection. If you are at the front of the peloton and approaching a light and it turns yellow please don't try and beat the light. You might be inadvertently drawing people behind you into a very dangerous situation.
Do Not Cross the Yellow Line Regardless of whether the lane appears clear or not. Doing so puts you into the path of oncoming cars, placing you and the rest of the group at risk.
We do not allow TT bikes, Tri bikes or aero bars on a road bike. These are not allowed (no exceptions) in most UCI sponsored road races and are not allowed on CCC rides because of the dangers they pose to the rider and to others in the peloton. There are many reasons for this rule. Aerobars are unstable in tight formations and when turning - and we have lots of both on our rides. They don't allow for quick decisions which are often needed to maintain a safe and fun ride for all in a tight group. And, they present a spearing hazard in a crash.
We do not allow E-bikes. These disrupt the natural flow of the paceline, drafting, and the effort of the peloton.
We do not allow earbuds. It is very important to be listening for safety call outs on our rides. Also, our rides are intended to be social when we are not hammering and it is hard to talk to the person next to you when you or they have something stuck in your/their ear.
No running red lights. Obey all traffic signs. Call out debris.
